Immunefi and Ethereum Foundation Unite for the First Attackathon to Enhance Protocol’s Security

We’re excited to announce our collaboration with the Ethereum Foundation to launch the first-ever Attackathon to enhance the Ethereum protocol’s security. This event marks a significant step in bolstering the security of the Ethereum protocol.

The Ethereum protocol Attackathon will engage Immunefi’s elite security researchers in a rigorous, time-boxed code review of Ethereum’s protocol. This initiative is not just a security measure but also an educational endeavor, designed to deepen the security researcher community’s understanding of Ethereum-related security and technology.

Unparalleled Expertise and Commitment

Immunefi operates the largest web3 security community, with over 45,000 researchers. Protecting over $190 billion in user funds for projects like Chainlink, Wormhole, MakerDAO, TheGraph, Synthetix, Polygon, and Optimism, Immunefi has paid out over $100 million in bug bounties, saving more than $25 billion in user funds.

Immunefi Attackathons are education-based crowdsourced security audit competitions where security researchers compete over a reward pool by submitting impactful bugs in the project’s code. Immunefi and the Ethereum Foundation’s Attackathon will offer dedicated resources such as live explainers on Ethereum technology and security, and educational content in the form of an academy with the Attackathon. These resources aim to expand the security researcher community around the Ethereum protocol’s code and technology.

Your Chance to Make an Impact

This sponsored Attackathon is the first of its kind, and we’re inviting the whole Ethereum community — from projects to individual developers — to participate. Sponsors can contribute to the program’s reward pool and will receive unique digital memorabilia and other benefits based on their tier of sponsorship in return.

To kickstart the Sponsorship program, Ethereum Foundation has already seeded the reward pool with $500,000. The sponsored pool will be deposited directly into the Attackathon vault on Immunefi, which ensures a transparent allocation of funds and streamlines the payment process between projects and security researchers.

The sponsorship program will close on August 1, 2024, at which point the final reward pool will be locked and further details of the Attackathon will be announced. Sponsors will immortalize their name in our Sponsor’s Leaderboard for all to see, and will receive NFTs highlighting their contribution to Ethereum protocol’s security. Community members can join the sponsorship program today here.

Join the effort to keep the Ethereum protocol secure — and help make this our largest Attackathon yet.
